How often would a person doherbs or to get sleep? I drink tea of chamomile, lemon balm, and lavender. I still am not going to sleep.
Congratulations on the new book. I have a friend who has a freeze dryer and freezes my goat milk for soap and mushrooms for tinctures. I would buy one but not sure that it would get the use you get from it
💚 Melissa, you were one of the first Homesteaders I started watching and learning from, from one of your Summits..maybe 2018? I heard you speak and met you at the first Homestead Festival in Tennessee in 2022. I was just up in your neck of the woods recently, but couldn't stay long enough for your upcoming 2nd Annual Homesteading Conference in Idaho..maybe next year! Hope it goes well. I've learned so much from both of you! 💚
NEVER NEVER USE ANY KIND OF OIL ON CAST IRON! OIL MAKE A SHELLAC COVERING THAT BE COMES RANSID AND WILL MAKE YOU FOOD TASTE BAD. The only thing I allow inn my cast-iron is lard. I have cast-iron from my grandmother and i collect all cast iron i can find. If someone is in my kitchen wants to cook with oil, I have some stainless that they can use,but no oil in my cast-iron! I was glad to see that you used a wood fire ash to clean your cast-iron. ( I've commented before, I'm coming up on 84 this year)
particles brought over by wind from neighboring farms? Well water?
🧡😍🧡thank you!
Worse than glyphosate is the weedkiller Grazon (aminopyralid) use on hay across the country. It survives digestion and contaminates the compost for at least 3 years. Charles Dowding and David the Good did great videos on the chemical. Check them out. Good Luck
I love her because she’s acting like Miss Hancock and I really like her
INNER -changeable. IN-TER-changeable. There's a big T in it.
AN-EYE-BIOD-ICS? It's AUNTI-BIOTICS. It has a T at the start, and a T (not a D) at the end.
Is there a written recipe for this cheese? thanks
Can you freeze dry broth?? Does the fat cause it to go rancid??
You can freeze dry broth. It would be best to cool the broth over night in the fridge, then skim the fat off before adding it to the freeze dry trays to remove as much fat as possible before freeze drying.
@@HomesteadingFamilythank you !! I really appreciate the response.
You are amazing!! What a great family project
I hope we’ll make so many herbal salve, and home remedies that we get all healthy and put big pharma out of business.❤❤❤❤❤
Could I use quart size jars?
Yes!
Lakes, ponds or fish from those ponds - would test.
Great presentation! Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
What type of pine? I've been told some can be toxic. ❤
All varieties of pine are safe to use except for tropical pines.
How much of the book is tips on specific ways to approach drying certain food? I have been using one for a while now so picking which one and the science behind it i dont need so much, but tips i do 😅 for instance, i tried oranges multiple ways and couldnt figure out why they didnt work and just were so bitter. I had no idea about pectic enzyme!
More on it here: homesteadliving.com/freeze-drying-the-harvest/?FDH-PO-2024
I'm so sad guys! Sent the tortilla press to my hubby for a birthday idea, turns out, it's made in China with cancer-causing non-stick! I'm so disappointed you'd recommend something like that. Please help me understand why? I know they sponsor, but why?
It's coming from the sprays...
I learned the hard way to never process raw ground turkey a few jars went bad. I can for my dogs also the excessive fat isn't healthy for them especially for the one that doesn't have a gallbladder.
So a few questions first, with the herbs that you have already stored, can you put the new herbs in with the old herbs or do you have to put them in a new jar? Second, are you labeling The date on the jars? And how long do the herbs last for? And also do you need to wash the herbs first or do you just let them dry?
Thank you for this video! This video should have been a part of the FD video series that I purchased from your School of Traditional Skills. This information is what has been missing from freeze drying information venues and needs to be disseminated for the at home FD process to be a long term success. Thank you for doing the legwork on this and letting us know!!!
How do you guys keep the capsule plates clean?
Can you use it on open coal fire ?
The safer way they can manage roadside vegetation is with Alamo side arm mowers and chainsaws, or rotary mowers. We need to start making this request by the thousands! Also, utility power line companies are also using these herbicides, as do town and city maintenance folks. I have had personal experience with this, both with the inhalation issues, both simply by passing by the spraying having been done, and also, having been the sprayer 15 years ago. That said, i havent applied any for 15 years. And im still detoxing it 😢
Ladies, and all others watching this podcast, regarding glyphostate exposure...and dangerously accumulating into our bodies...the other route of exposure no one is discussing is breathing it in, due to Roadside Spraying being done by DOT state agencies, that have work yards in each county. This is being done broad scale along interstates and state routes every summer, at the least. We all need to start complaining to the local DOT offices to insist they stop using herbicide in roadside (row) spraying. They will change if they receive enough complaints.
This is the video I was waiting for.
I'm noticing that the Roundup for home use doesn't list glyphosate anymore. Now it's a tetra amine salt. Is that just another name for glyphosate or is it different?
Also regarding using your secret ingredient. You can make things a lot easier if you just simply add some organic apple cider vinegar (containing the mother). Add one tablespoon of that to your homemade mayo and you can keep your mayonnaise for at least a month in your fridge.
Regarding all the naysayers about seed oils being bad for you. Not really true. Seed oils, eaten in the mix with olive oil, avocados, omega-3-rich fatty fish, nuts, and seeds, are a health-promoting alternative to saturated fats, and a safe and nutritious food source to keep in your diet! Grapeseed oil has many benefits. It is rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids including omega-6 fatty acids, vitamin E, and phenolic antioxidants. It is considered good for your heart, nerves, brain, and muscles.
Do you wash your herbs first
Oatmeal is heavily contaminated with glyphosate. We pay HUGE taxes to the government which is SUPPOSED TO protect us but DOES NOT.
Testing in glass containers is the sure way.Plastic alters results.
Good program ! Thank - you Doc Jones & Homesteading Family ! 👏. .👏. .👋
Can i use on my baby face he has infected skin? thank u.
Hello can i use on baby face? thank you
Amazing! I currently have a freeze drier. How much “space” is dedicated to rehydrating and recipes in the book?
Somehow I did not start any summer squash this year also.😮
"165 degrees" is that C og F ?
Farenheit.
I like her idea stews are good for you and you don't just have to have meat in there you can have something else great planning idea thanks for your video! Amen 🙏
I'm a new subscriber, I wish I found your channel a long time ago..Thank you for your great info, I'm kinda new to canning and you helped me so much..Thank you again I'm looking forward to all of your videos.
I remember watching an older HF video and Carolyn was talking about not having any mentors or encouragement when she started out. She made a comment similar to, "Where were all the women who could help me learn?" Look in the mirror, Carolyn, you have become what you were looking for!
Could I sub dried spearmint for the peppermint?
Grapes are on the top high pesticide list. Get organic moms
The sooner humans accept that animal flesh is not the optimal protein claimed the better. There is a long history of viruses/pandemics caused by animal handling, consuming, and mutilating. It is costing our species dearly now
You wouldn't need the toxic artificial calcium if you just put the rennet in the milk directly without diluting it 😒
I have always wondered about this but most sources say that glyphosate breaks down in the soil after I think 30 days? Can remember the timeframe. A few days or weeks. Microbes break it down. So it isn’t a surprise it isn’t in your soil. Even if the previous owners used an insane amount. If what we’re seeing here and what we’re led to believe in most sources. It’s likely broken down.
